Urban interventions Bratislava

Few ideas for better living in Bratislava.

Urban interventions Bratislava

Regarding our city, time is passing quickly. Quickly and without compromise. Newer and newer elements appear here with potential impacts on this place lasting a very long time. Nobody was probably ready for the construction boom of these years - neither city officials nor architects nor the law. New buildings emerge from day to day; trees are cut down at night, a new slogan: one floor a day. Public premises as premises for all of us, as our premises, were left far behind. Some chances were seized, but many of them remained wasted. Many factors may have been victimized: mad times having been lived by some of us or mad times lived by us, money, officers, developers, moral values, bla bla bla bla..... And though we are sometimes apt to be pessimistic or start fulminating, we mostly fail to do that and, most of all, we grow weary of it. But we are keen on architecture, music, coffee in the city, talking... That's why we have prepared the City Interventions involving our friends and colleagues, who didn‘t hesitate to join us. The City Intervention project can have many faces. Our main idea was to try and fi nd certain points, places and situations in our city, which, in our opinion, do not work properly, or which do not present appropriate benefits to citizens. The places, which are concerned, are often seemingly not of interest to anybody and not in anybody's plans for profit. We'd like to do more than just search for them; we'd like to propose feasible solutions. We believe that, within an urban context, small changes can sometimes bring large effects. Our project is a cross-roads of various interests: city officials, but also citizens, architects and artists, philosophers as well as top specialists. The project is not about generating profi ts or bombastic promises; it should try to bring some changes. Moreover, it is also a way of showing our inactive city officials other actions and possibilities in the development of public premises. We are trying to turn the conventional city order upside down and to help our city and its surroundings without any demands of reward and without waiting for an appeal. The project presentation will perhaps help to correct the public opinion and the public perception of the modern architect as a human being erecting bad buildings without any moral doubts and changing the cities image for short-term benefits to be reversed.
